Gravure printing

Advantages of gravure printing:

  • high ink covering
  • brilliant metallic colours- mirror effect
  • soft colour gradations possible
  • printing width up to 420mm

Gravure printing means that the elements to be printed are embedded deeper in the printing form, whereas the elements which should not be printed lie on a uniformly high surface. After the colour is applied to the whole plate the excess colour is removed with a doctor plate and flows back into the inking unit. The colour is therefore only in the recessed cells (=parts to print). The purpose of the impression roller is to apply the colour by a high contact pressure onto the printing substrate. It then goes through a high performance dry secquence before going through the next colour unit.
